ATLANTA — How’s that to start an NFL career?
On DeVonta Smith’s first career NFL drive, he capped a 75-yard march with an 18-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter at Mercedes Benz Stadium
The throw from Jalen Hurts came on 3rd-and-4 from the Atlanta 18-yard line. Smith ran a nice route but also got helped out by a nice natural pick from tight end Zach Ertz.
Smith, the No. 10 pick out of Alabama, missed considerable time this training camp with a knee injury and played just 26 snaps in the preseason. None of those snaps came with Hurts. So this is the first time these two have played in a game together since early in Smith’s time at Alabama.
The touchdown was Smith’s only catch on the drive. Hurts went 4-for-4 on the drive for 41 yards and had 13 yards rushing to help give the Eagles a 7-3 lead in the first quarter.
