Eagles' Zach Ertz discusses Carson Wentz's return, Frank Reich, more

He is one of the elite tight ends in the game today, and now he has his quarterback back. This week I go Gunn-on-One with Zach Ertz.

Tune in for our full conversation Sunday on Eagles Pregame Live at 12 p.m. before the Eagles take on the Colts.

So, you get the word that your man Carson Wentz is coming back. What was going through your mind?

"Just excitement. I mean, I’ve seen the journey from the moment he was hurt in L.A. last December. I saw how bummed he was, how much anxiety he was going through because he didn’t know what going on with his knee. He knew something was wrong. So I’ve been with him every step of the way. I've seen the highs and lows, but to have it all culminate in the announcement that he was going to be back this week, I was ecstatic.

You’ve elevated yourself to elite tight end status. Where do you go from here?

"Just consistency year in and year out. I look at some of the role models I’ve had in the past, Jason Witten and Tony Gonzalez. Those guys are guys that did it year in and year out for 10-plus years. They’re mentioned as the best tight ends in the game, and those are the guys that I’m shooting for. Obviously, there are a lot of great tight ends in the league, but my goal is to be mentioned with those guys when it's all said and done."

Your former offensive coordinator Frank Reich is coming back. Take me inside his offensive mind, what he thinks in terms of strategy.

"First of all, he is an amazing person. He’s one of my favorite coaches I’ve ever had. Not only his knowledge of offense, but just the way he always instilled confidence in us as a football team. I think a lot of us owe our offensive success to him. But as an offensive mind, you expect a guy who’s going to be efficient on first down and try to get the ball out of Andrew Luck's hands early. He doesn’t want Luck taking shots. He wants to establish the run game, and he’s going to instill that confidence in his playmakers that they can be successful against us. Whether that happens or not, we’ll see on Sunday."
