Avonte Maddox had probably his best game of the season against the Rams. He even stole an interception off Jared Goff. Maddox, one of the men behind the Eagles' ski masks, is this week's Gunn-on-One subject.
Q: The ski mask. Whose idea was it and what’s the mindset behind it?
A: All those guys on the back end. You can give it to Jalen [Mills] if you want. Give it to [Rodney McLeod.] Give it to [Malcolm] Jenkins. It's all of us. You know this year, it's been a lot of adversity. We play with our backs against the wall, so right now we got to go take everything. So any time we get a takeaway in a game, we bring out the ski masks to signify what we took away.
Q: Jim Schwartz said, “without Avonte Maddox, we probably don’t win the Rams game." What does it mean to you to hear your defensive coordinator say that?
A: It means a lot, just personally. But at the end of the day, it's still a team effort. Without those guys up front, I couldn’t be me. They’re putting pressure on the QB, giving us opportunities to make plays on the back end.
Q: You’re getting ready to face DeAndre Hopkins, one of the best in the game. One of the best route runners, straight ahead speed, great hands, acrobatic. How dangerous do you view him?
A: Just watching the film, when that ball is up in the air, it may be a 50-50 chance, but he makes it 60-40 in his favor. You have to be in good position, but even when you’re in good position he’s going to make plays. When that ball is in the air, you just have to make sure you give it your all.
