Jason Peters injury update: Eagles veteran OL expects to play vs. Colts

TAMPA — Eagles All-Pro offensive lineman Jason Peters, who left the game Sunday with a quad strain, said he expects to return to action next week when the Eagles face the Colts.

Peters, who missed the second half of the 2017 regular season and the Super Bowl run after suffering a knee injury against the Redskins in October, left in the first quarter of the Eagles’ 27-21 loss to the Buccaneers Sunday at Raymond James Stadium (see Roob's observations).

He briefly returned to the game before shutting it down completely.

The 36-year-old Peters, a 10-time Pro Bowler, is the Eagles’ oldest starter since Jeff Garcia in 2006.

“I hurt it in practice — last play of practice on Thursday," Peters said. "It was nagging today and it kept grabbing on me and I just came out. I’ll be back for the next game.

“It was frustrating. I got mad, I should have been out that play (at practice). I’m just going to roll with it and get ready for the next game.”

Halapoulivaati Vaitai, the starter at left tackle in the postseason last year, replaced Peters.

“He played well,” Peters said. “He had one bad play in there, I just told him to settle down after that, and he did, and he did well.”

Jay Ajayi left the game early with a back injury but returned for the second half. He said after the game he was very sore and needed treatment.

Corey Clement was on the field for quite a while in the fourth quarter after taking a shot during a fourth-down incompletion, but he also returned to the game. He said in the locker room he got the wind knocked out of him and it was so hot on the field he had trouble catching his breath and getting up.

Receiver Mike Wallace was carted off the field in the first quarter and didn’t return with what the Eagles called an ankle injury. Head coach Doug Pederson said he’d give an update on Wallace back in Philadelphia on Monday.
