The early-2010s Eagles were full of talented players and firecracker personalities; when they were blown up, fans took it pretty hard.
But DeSean Jackson has already returned for a second go-round with the Birds, and LeSean McCoy made it clear this week that he'd like a similar opportunity.
McCoy, 31, who is currently a free agent, appeared on Ian Rapoport's "Rap + Friends" podcast Tuesday, and was open and honest when asked about an Eagles reunion.
McCoy said he's spent plenty of time over the past few years hoping to get back to Philadelphia:
RAPOPORT: How much have you thought about potentially being back in an Eagles uniform?
MCCOY: I've thought about it, even in times when they were trying to trade for me. At the time, Buffalo wouldn't let me go.
But, listen. It's not a secret. Everybody knows it was a special place for me there, when I was playing for the Eagles. I started there, they kind of changed my life for the better. I was 20 years old, you know? Coach Reid brought me up.
A lot of my best friends I played with, we're still good friends. I just talked to Fletcher Cox, what, yesterday, just texting him and messing around. A lot of my good friends are still there.
So it would mean a lot for me to play back there when I'm done - to finish, I should say, my career out there. That'd be excellent. That's like home for me. But right now I'm trying to find the right fit for me. If it's Philadelphia, it is, and if it's not, it's not.
That doesn't really obscure much: McCoy wants to play for the Eagles again before he ends his NFL career.
The nixed trade McCoy referenced was from 2018, one year after the Eagles' Super Bowl win. After running back Jay Ajayi tore his ACL, the Eagles reportedly reached out to the Bills, where McCoy was playing at the time, about a possible trade.
McCoy said earlier this month that he'd like to play two more seasons in the NFL, and while his production isn't close to what it was when he set the Eagles' all-time rushing yards record, he's still producing: McCoy ran for 465 yards and four touchdowns, and he caught 28 passes for 181 yards and one touchdown, in 2019.
Unlike Jackson's return, however, Eagles fans are likely split on McCoy into two camps. There will be those who remember the thrill of his glory days, and see his value as a veteran running back in the position room; and there will be those who see McCoy as a potential distraction, in more than one way.
Looking at the Eagles' current roster, there would appear to be room for McCoy as a secondary (or tertiary) running back option, and as a provider of on-field guidance for RB1 Miles Sanders.
Whether McCoy's second act will actually materialize, however, remains to be seen.
