Michael Bennett announces he's attending Eagles' mandatory minicamp

After skipping the Eagles’ voluntary OTAs this spring, we got some official word that Michael Bennett is attending the team’s mandatory minicamp this week.

From the man himself.

The Eagles had team photo day Monday after reporting and it looks like their offseason acquisition was enjoying himself in a new No. 77 jersey.

Had Bennett not reported, he could have been fined over $84,000 if he missed all three days. That never seemed like a possibility. He’s happy to be an Eagle.

Bennett and Darren Sproles are going to be at this mandatory minicamp after both skipping the voluntary practices of the last few weeks. The Eagles didn’t seem to be worried about either veteran.

“He's a veteran player,” defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz said last week about Bennett. “He's been through an awful lot in this league. He's seen a lot of things coming in undrafted when he came in with Tampa. So he's seen a lot, and that experience means a lot to us also.”

Bennett, 32, hasn’t been in front of reporters in Philadelphia since shortly after the team traded for him in March. That’s when he issued a WWE-style warning to quarterbacks around the NFC East (see story).

Plenty has happened since then, including an injury to Tim Jernigan getting revealed and charges being filed against Bennett. That felony injury to the elderly charge against Bennett, stemming from an alleged altercation after Super Bowl LI in Houston, has still not been resolved. He has an arraignment scheduled for later this month.

You can bet that pending court case will come up in interviews this week.
