NFL fans will be required to wear masks in 2020 amid coronavirus

We still don’t know if Eagles fans will be allowed to attend NFL games at Lincoln Financial Field at all in 2020.

But if they do, they’ll be required to wear masks.

That will be a league-wide rule, according to NFL Vice President of Communications Brian McCarthy:

I guess Eagles fans are ahead of the curve. They’ve been wearing (dog) masks since late in the 2017 season for the Super Bowl run.

They’re not as sleek as the now-common coronavirus masks but maybe Eagles fans can retrieve those dog masks out of storage for one last run.

If wearing a mask will get Eagles fans into games this season, I’m sure they’ll have no problem doing it.

Still, it seems unlikely fans will be allowed into the Linc in 2020, at least early in the season. Last week Philadelphia Department of Health commissioner Thomas Farley and Philadelphia managing director Brian Abernathy released a statement saying the Eagles would “be allowed to play, although without crowds.”

Then the next day officials issued another statement, calling the situation “fluid” and seemingly leaving open the possibility for fans in the 2020 season.

The Eagles are scheduled to begin their 2020 season on the road in Washington on Sept. 13 and are scheduled to have their first home game at the Linc on Sept. 20 against the Rams.
