A 27-17 loss to the Bills in the first game of the season didn't necessarily come as a surprise to many. Through a lot of negatives, Jamison Crowder was a (dim) bright spot, having 115 yards and a touchdown.

If the Jets find a way to crawl their way out of the bottom five of these power rankings, they would exceed expectations for the 2020 season.

Were the Browns that bad? Or were the Ravens that good? Optimism about a new coaching staff from the offseason quickly faded following a blowout loss, 28-6, in the first game of the season.

The Dolphins picked up right where they left off last season, falling short on just about everything. Their 21-11 loss to the Patriots didn't come as a shock as they were simply not able to find an edge or advantage anywhere.

If you watched this game, you wouldn't have even known the Panthers went defense heavy in the draft. Seriously, they spent every pick in 2020 on it. Even though it was a rather close game, a late game call from new head coach Matt Rhule, opened up the opportunity for the Panthers to take the lead. Heads up, it didn't work out.

All eyes were on the No. 1 overall pick, Joe Burrow as he made his NFL debut with the Bengals. If he led his team to a win, it would've been the first time since 2002 where the top draft pick (David Carr) led their team to a win.

Impressive debut for the rookie, but it wasn't enough to beat the Chargers.

Were there really any tangible expectations for the Giants heading into their first game of the season against the Steelers? Their sloppy play was expected, and even with a new coach, not much looks to be different from last season.

Who would've thought the Jags were going to come out with any force after they were dropping players like flies in the offseason? Second-year quarterback Gardner Minshew had a very solid outing — going 19-of-20 for 173 yards. With three touchdowns and not being picked off once, there's a lot to look forward to with the young leader.

There is very little identity to this new Washington team — and that has nothing to do with the name change (well, maybe a little). However, that didn't stop them from coming back from a 17-point deficit against the Eagles with their pass rush leading the way. Washington had eight sacks on Carson Wentz and came away with a hard-fought win.

The question is — was this a fluke win or is Washington trending in the right direction to earning a winning record for the first time since 2016?

What's worse than one opening day loss? Four consecutive seasons of starting the year off with a loss. Granted, the Seahawks are a well composed, dynamic team and even though it looked like the Falcons matched them in many aspects, they didn't do enough to get the job done.

Fourth quarter collapses happen all of the time, but it should never be against the Bears when once holding a 17-point lead. Also, has anyone seen the Lions' defense? You might want to let them know the team will be in Green Bay next Sunday, so they can actually show up. Maybe they missed the memo.

A fresh start on a new team would've been great for Philip Rivers ... too bad that's not what happened. His interceptions followed him from the Chargers to the Colts and while giving up a few costly ones to the Jaguars, he also threw away their chance at a win.

In a game that could have swayed either way due to low scoring, the Broncos fell short.

Blaming a loss on a single injury never really makes sense unless it's a starting quarterback, but when Henry Ruggs went down, so did the Raiders' momentum. Luckily, they were still able to pull out a win and avoided a more serious injury with Ruggs. There should be a lot of optimism for the Raiders looking ahead.

It's never an easy task to start your season off against the defending champions, but the Texans were off the Kansas City to do just that. They started off with promise, but did anyone expect the Chiefs to raise their banner and not put up a fight? This was more on the Chiefs simply being the better team, but any effort would've been nice.

It's always a tossup with the Bears. They have a few good pieces, a few bad and a whole lot of meh in the middle that could swing in either direction in varying weeks. They were able to propel themselves to a 27-23 win, after scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter.

That should definitely add some momentum moving into Week 2.

With a rookie quarterback and an average Bengals team, this should've been a much easier win for the Chargers. There weren't many stand out moments, but they didn't need them since they still found themselves in the win column after Week 1. For the Chargers to also have a new starting quarterback, you can't find much to complain about.

So far, things are looking good for the Steelers, their defense in particular. Though the Giants offense wasn't necessarily a threat, the Steelers found a way to lock in and apply pressure when needed.

For the most part, it was a pretty back and forth game for the Cardinals and 49ers. The Cardinals did all that they could to pull out a win against the defending NFC Champions and never let down their guard. It was an impressive win to kick off their season.

There's a new sheriff (coach) in town, but so far, it doesn't look like there are many new things to like about the Cowboys. The thing with the Cowboys, is that there's always high expectations for them to start the season ... and then they fall short. It's the same thing year in and out.

Is this the season that finally changes? (Probably not.)

When you go up against the Packers, you already know it's going to be a difficult game. The Vikings had a chance to showcase the success they normally have on defense, but the Packers steamrolled right over it. It wasn't an ideal way to start the season, especially being home.

This wasn't a pretty sight for the Eagles. After putting up a promising 17 points in the first half of the game, they collapsed — or should we say they were sacked? The Eagles were out six of their starters and Carson Wentz had one of the worst outings of his career, but that still isn't an excuse to lose to the Washington Football Team.

Just imagine what this team would look like with a fully healthy roster? Because it'd be much higher on this ranking.

Tom Brady was ready to start a new with the Buccaneers, but who would've thought it was going to start out on such a sour note? The Saints defense was too much for the veteran quarterback to handle and it looks like it's going to take a little bit of time to adjust to the new division.

A dynasty may be over, but it's time to welcome the Cam Newton era to the Patriots. May the city embrace his style of play and funky outfits. To have to adjust to such a huge offseason change, you couldn't ask for more from the offense. It was an impressive win all around, even if it was against the Dolphins.

Aaron Rodgers hasn't necessarily ever had a poor season, but 2019 was less than ideal for him. Let's just say he left it in the dust and came out back and better than ever. Rodgers was 32-of-44 for 364 yards and his opponents didn't make it an easy feat. They prevailed though and made for one heck of a matchup.

The Rams had a very interesting, yet dynamic win against the Cowboys that sent the message that they're not to be messed with this season. Heading into 2020, the Rams defense was up in the air, but they found a way to slow down a team that prides in their offensive capabilities. An important win to start the season.

The 49ers were out to defend their NFC title in a division showdown against the Cardinals, but there were some concerns heading into this season, their biggest being at wide receiver. There's a possibility next week, we see the 49ers team from last season and this was just Week 1 jitters ... let's hope that's the case.

If I've learned anything from the past year — it's to never count out the Seahawks. When Russell Wilson is on top of his game, there's not much any opposing team can do to slow them down. The Falcons just weren't able to keep up.

It was interesting to watch a game where the Saints were heavy on the defense, rather than offense. They made Tom Brady's first game as a Buccaneer a bitter one, picking him off twice.

Even with a dominant 2019 season, it still felt like the Ravens were overlooked. They made it clear they were not going anywhere with their performance against the Browns. The Ravens did not just show up — they demolished their opponents.
