Eagles reportedly request interview with rival offensive coordinator

Add another young and innovative offensive mind to the Eagles coaching search.

And this one is from their biggest rival.

This time, the Eagles have requested an interview with Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for their head coaching vacancy, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Moore, 32, has been the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator since the start of the 2019 season and recently signed an extension to remain in Dallas. The Cowboys handed Moore that extension earlier this month after he interviewed for the head coaching job at Boise State, where he starred from 2008-11.

“I am very excited to remain with the Dallas Cowboys as the offensive coordinator,” Moore said in a statement earlier this month. “I will no longer be pursuing the head coaching job at Boise State. I love Boise State. I will always root for them, and I hope one day to be a part of the program again.

“We are building something special here in Dallas. I’m thankful to the Jones family and Mike McCarthy for providing me with the opportunity to coach these special players. I am excited for us to put it all together and finish the job.”

The Cowboys offense fell off a cliff in 2020 after the injury to Dak Prescott but Moore is seen as an innovator on offense. There’s a reason Mike McCarthy kept him on his staff after he replaced Jason Garrett last offseason.

Through five games this season — before Prescott went down — the Cowboys were leading the league in total offense with 2,440 yards. They had 404 more yards than the Chiefs. They were also second in points with 163, just six behind Seattle. So with a top quarterback, Moore’s offense was elite in 2020.

And in Week 16, the Eagles saw how explosive the Cowboys can be on offense. With Andy Dalton at quarterback, Dallas put up 37 points and 513 yards on the Birds in a 20-point win that knocked the Eagles out of the playoffs.

The news about this interview request for Moore comes one day after the Eagles completed an interview with 31-year-old Joe Brady. They have been linked to many other candidates.

Even if the Eagles don’t hire Moore, getting to sit down and explore the mind of the offensive coordinator of your fiercest division rival for a few hours is appealing. It’s information the Eagles could potentially use against the Cowboys in the future.
