NFL schedule 2020: Why the New Orleans Saints sent meals to Philly health care workers

Share

The NFL's tentative 2020 regular season schedule is set to be announced Thursday night, and even though we know which teams the Eagles will face, there's still an air of excitement buzzing around the schedule release.

NFL teams know fans are fired up, so the New Orleans Saints released a bit of a hype video for their schedule - with a unique twist.

Instead of ragging on their opponents, the Saints went with a message of love and compassion amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. As it turns out, the organization sent meals to health care workers in each city of their 2020 opponents, and the video includes reactions and clips from across the country.

It's an insanely cool move:

The Eagles will play New Orleans this season, for the first time since the Birds' crushing 2019 postseason loss, and the Saints opted to send cheesesteaks from Joe's Steaks to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in North Philly.

Here's a video from the official Joe's Instagram account, including behind-the-scenes cheesesteak action and a message from workers at St. Christopher's.

Eagles fans certainly don't have any lost love for the Saints on the field, but this is a really awesome gesture.

It'll be interesting to see whether, as pro sports slowly return over the rest of 2020, other teams and leagues follow suit with slightly more compassionate messaging. Because, sure, we want our teams to win. But just being able to take some time and talk about our favorite sports is reason for celebration.
