Updating Eagles' odds to win Super Bowl after 2020 schedule release

Hey Philly! You want to party like it’s February 2018! So do I!

Now that the 2020 schedule is out it doesn’t hurt to take a look at what the sportsbooks think the Eagles chances are to be crowned Super Bowl LV champions.

Right after Andy Reid finally hunted down that elusive title in February, the oddsmakers pinned the Eagles at 17-1 to take home this upcoming season's crown. Currently the Eagles have slipped a little on the board and now have odds of 19-1. The Cowboys are 17-1 … whatever. Reid’s Chiefs remain the favorite (+650 — $100 bet will earn $650) followed by the Ravens (7-1) and 49ers (9-1).

The biggest jump to win the championship should be no surprise. Tom Brady opting to join the Buccaneers has them at 15-1. It also doesn’t hurt that Brady’s old partner in crime Rob Gronkowski is reunited with TB12 down in sunny Florida. Back in early February, Tampa Bay was listed at 35-1. New England has plunged from 14-1 down to 23-1.

Looking at the odds for the NFC Champion, the 49ers and Saints are the top two choices. The Bucs and Cowboys are the third and fourth choices, respectively, followed by the Eagles and Seahawks, both at 10-1 ($100 bet earns $1000).

A season ago the Eagles won the NFC East thanks in large part for their four-game win streak to end the season, coupled with the Cowboys’ forgetting how to play football. In case you need a reminder, Jerry, Dak and Zeke lost four of their last six games a season ago. For some reason, that doesn’t seem to matter in the betting landscape. Dallas is the odds-on favorite at this time (-105 — $105 wager to earn $100) to win the NFC East with the Eagles trailing them at +140.

It is worth noting that the NFC East has not had a repeat champion since the Eagles won four straight divisional titles in the early 2000s (2001-2004). Fine by me if the Eagles want to buck that trend and take that first step to getting back to the big game. It all starts, hopefully, on Sept. 13 at Washington against a team that has the second-longest shot of winning Super Bowl LV (+15000 — $100 wager earns $15,000).
