Hero of Eagles' Super Bowl run retires from NFL

Patrick Robinson spent just one season in Philadelphia but Eagles fans will never forget him.

And now the veteran cornerback has told the Saints he is retiring, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday.

Robinson, 33, spent the last three seasons with the Saints, the team that drafted him in the first round back in 2010, but he had a magical run with the Eagles in 2017.

In Philadelphia, Robinson will always be remembered for his pick-6 in the NFC Championship Game that turned the tide against the Vikings and helped send the Eagles to Super Bowl LII. He was a big part of the first Super Bowl championship in Philadelphia history.

When the Eagles signed Robinson in 2017, he was coming off an injury-shortened season in Indianapolis so the Eagles got him on a one-year deal worth just $775,000. It was a prove-it deal and things didn’t go well early. Robinson really struggled early in training camp and might have even been in danger of getting cut.

But things started to turn for him when the Eagles acquired Ronald Darby from Buffalo. That forced Robinson into the nickel corner position, where he really thrived.

Robinson that season had four interceptions to lead the team. Of course, that pick-6 in the NFC Championship Game doesn’t count in that total. That moment was perhaps the loudest I have ever heard Lincoln Financial Field.
