After what looked like it might be a pretty serious injury on the field, Eagles safety Rodney McLeod after Sunday’s 20-16 win over the Colts said he’s OK (see Roob's 10 observations).
Even though he didn’t come back in the game after being listed as questionable to return, McLeod after the game was walking without a limp and said he thinks he’s fine. He’ll have more tests in the morning to make sure.
McLeod went down in the third quarter when he was hit by some friendly from Jalen Mills on his right knee. He was able to walk gingerly off the field but appears to be in pain.
Once McLeod left the game, veteran Corey Graham replaced him. Graham, 33, signed with the Eagles during training camp and instantly became the Eagles third safety.
“It really don’t change much,” Graham said about the possibility of starting if McLeod misses any time. “We’re going to run our same packages, do the same thing we’ve been doing. Instead of playing 30 plays a game, I’ll play 60. It don’t really change too much for me. I’ll still be doing the same exact thing, but more.”
While Malcolm Jenkins is the more important piece among the safeties, McLeod has been having a very good season so far.
And if McLeod misses any time, it doesn’t allow the Eagles to maximize Jenkins’ versatility. Sometimes, Jim Schwartz likes to give Jenkins run at nickel corner, but they can only do that with a good third safety. The only other safety on the roster is relative newcomer Deiondre’ Hall.
