With a year of NFL experience under his belt and Carson Wentz now starting for the Indianapolis Colts, Jalen Hurts has the keys to the Philadelphia Eagles’ passing attack. With Jalen Reagor and rookie DeVonta Smith on the outside, Hurts and new head coach Nick Sirianni are looking to improve the Birds’ passing attack following a 4-11-1 season.Opposing defenses have other plans, though. Despite having the easiest strength of schedule entering the 2021 season, Hurts and Co. will still face some strong secondaries. Here are five of the best cornerback duos on the team’s schedule.

It takes something special to hold Patrick Mahomes under 10 points in a game, and that’s exactly what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense did in Super Bowl 55.

After giving up 269 receiving yards to Tyreek Hill earlier in the season, the Bucs’ secondary rebounded big time in the Super Bowl. While Tampa Bay is loaded with elite talent in the front seven and at the safety position, Sean Murphy-Bunting and Carlton Davis held their own with 11 combined tackles in the Super Bowl triumph.

Davis had four interceptions in 2020, while Murphy-Bunting had one. Davis is entering his fourth NFL season and Murphy-Bunting is entering his third, so both are still on the rise in Tampa Bay’s secondary.

The Eagles will host the Bucs for Thursday Night Football in Week 6.

A Super Bowl champion and an up-and-coming corner make up the Los Angeles Chargers’ tandem.

Chris Harris Jr. played a central role in the 2015 Denver Broncos’ all-time, Super Bowl-winning defense. He made a move across the AFC West in 2020 and started nine games for the Chargers. Though his prime playing days might be behind him, the four-time Pro Bowler is still a player to watch in the L.A. secondary.

Davis, meanwhile, had his best NFL season in 2020. He set career highs with 64 tackles, 14 passes defended, three interceptions and one interception returned for a touchdown.

The Birds will host the Chargers in Week 9.

The Denver Broncos’ cornerback group is four strong.

With Bryce Callahan back in the fold, Vic Fangio’s defense added Kyle Fuller and Ronald Darby in free agency on top of using a first-round pick on Patrick Surtain II. Darby brings six years of NFL experience and Surtain II has already brought a ball to the house with a preseason pick-six against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fuller and Callahan get the distinction of “cornerback duo” here. Fuller comes from a solid Chicago Bears defense and tied for the league lead with seven interceptions in 2018. Callahan, on the other hand, had the third-best PFF grade among NFL corners in 2020 with a 84.1 score.

The Eagles will head to the Mile High City in Week 10.

Cornerback is expected to be one of the strongest position groups for the New York Giants in 2021.

James Bradberry is back after joining the Giants in 2020. He snagged three interceptions across 15 starts in his first season with the franchise and earned his first career Pro Bowl nod in the process.

The Giants went out and got Bradberry a productive partner in Adoree’ Jackson. The former Tennessee Titan made 39 starts in his first three NFL seasons before playing just three games in 2020. He got a major payday with the Giants, signing a three-year, $39 million deal this offseason.

The Eagles and Giants will play each other twice in less than a month. The Giants will be home for a Week 12 matchup before the two teams play at the Linc in Week 16.

The Washington Football Team’s defense skyrocketed the team to a division title in 2020, and the team brought in a valuable addition on the outside to help make the unit even better in 2021.

William Jackson III signed a three-year, $42 milloin deal with Washington this offseason after spending the first four years of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals. He has 48 career starts and three interceptions.

Kendall Fuller makes up the other half of Washington’s cornerback tandem. He hauled in six interceptions across his first two NFL seasons with Washington, had zero interceptions in two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and picked off four more passes when he returned to Washington in 2020.

The Eagles will face Washington twice in 14 days. The Birds host Washington in Week 15 and head to FedExField in Week 17.
