Week 9 NFC power rankings: Eagles climb a spot

Share

Through eight weeks of the season, the Eagles have pulled even at 4-4 thanks to a 24-18 win over the Jaguars in London.

Still just one undefeated team in the NFL.

That’s where these NFC power rankings start:

1. Rams (8-0) Last week: 1
Los Angeles was one Aaron Rodgers drive away from losing their first game of the season, but Rodgers never even got the ball. The Rams didn’t have their best performance and didn’t come close to covering the 9 1/2-point spread, but they kept their win streak alive in front of a home crowd that wasn’t much of a home crowd. They’re the best team no one cares about in LA.

2. Saints (6-1) Last week: 2
New Orleans beat Minnesota by 10 points and have clearly established itself as the second-best team in the NFC. The Vikings got yards, but lost the turnover battle. Can’t make mistakes against these Saints.

3. Panthers (5-2) Last week: 4
They put up 36 points on a Ravens defense that was supposed to be for real. Cam Newton threw two touchdowns and ran for a third. When he’s on his game he’s a handful.

4. Redskins: (5-2) Last week: 5
Here’s the NFC team no one saw coming. They beat the lowly Giants by a touchdown but never trailed and were always in control. Adrian Peterson apparently doesn’t age. He had 26 carries for 149 yards and a touchdown.

5. Vikings (4-3-1) Last week: 3
They had a chance to knock out the Saints at home on Sunday Night Football and came up short. The Vikings are a talented team, but they don’t yet belong with the Rams or Saints.

6. Bears (4-3) Last week: 6
A win over the Jets has Chicago staying in first place in the NFC North. They won’t play the Vikings for another few weeks.

7. Eagles (4-4) Last week: 8
It wasn’t pretty, but the Eagles got a big win over the Jaguars in London. That’s a tough trip to make across the pond and the Eagles pulled off a gutty win as they head into their bye week. There’s some hope for the reigning Super Bowl champs and even more after they brought in Golden Tate.

8. Packers (3-3-1) Last week: 7
Rodgers never got that chance to drive his team down the field for a win. I have no doubt he would have gotten it done. That was a devastating mistake and the Packers are now third in their division.

9. Seahawks: (4-3) Last week: 10
Someone forgot to tell the Seahawks they were supposed to stink. Russell Wilson turned in a perfect passer rating. He completed 14 of 17 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns.

10. Lions: (3-4) Last week: 9
Can’t seem to figure these Lions out. They had a big win over the Patriots, then lost to the Cowboys. They win back-to-back games over the Packers and Dolphins and get roughed up by the Seahawks. They have to be frustrating their fans.

11. Falcons: (3-4) Last week: 11
Atlanta will have to travel to Washington this weekend as they come off their bye week.

12. Buccaneers (3-4) Last week: 12
Fitzmagic almost pulled out a win in Cincinnati. But the Bucs are a mess. Jameis Winston got benched and now they’re forced to start a 35-year-old journeyman quarterback.

13. Cowboys (3-4) Last week: 13
Coming off their bye week, the Cowboys will host the Titans this weekend before traveling to Philly for a Sunday Night Football matchup on Nov. 11.

14. Cardinals (2-6) Last week: 14
In a battle of the losers, the Cardinals beat the 49ers, 18-15. The Cards have now beaten the 49ers twice.

15. 49ers (1-7) Last week: 15
See above.

16. Giants (1-6) Last week: 16
They lost to Washington, but at least they didn’t get blown out.
