Why Eagles fans should be pretty happy with the Jamal Adams trade

Jamal Adams finally has a new home.

The Jets traded their disgruntled All-Pro safety to the Seahawks on Saturday, one day after Adams ramped up his "trade me now" efforts by criticizing Jets head coach Adam Gase.

The Eagles were extremely long shots in the Adams sweepstakes because of their long-term salary cap situation, so it's not exactly a surprise that Howie Roseman sat this one out. But there's still cause for celebration here in Philly.

Why? Because Adams isn't coming to the NFC East.

The Cowboys were long rumored to have serious interest in dealing for Adams, a 24-year-old star entering his prime. That would've been less than ideal for Carson Wentz and the Eagles, who would've faced the best safety in the league at least twice a year for the foreseeable future.

Now, would it have been more beneficial to keep Adams in the AFC and face him just once every four years? Obviously. But the Jets didn't want Adams to stay in their conference, so keeping him out of the NFC East is the next-best option.

The Seahawks aren't a great destination, considering their consistent competitiveness and their dominance of the Eagles in the last half-decade. However, Seattle gave up a dang haul to acquire Adams:

Two first-round picks! It's been a while since Seattle really hit on a first-round pick, but do you know how they built their mid-to-late 2010s string of great seasons? With a few first-round picks by the names of Russell Okung (2010), Earl Thomas (2010), and Bruce Irvin (2012).

The Seahawks have found a bunch of great players outside the first round, but your odds are higher with those premium picks, and consistently finding young talent is vital to sustainable success in the long-term, so losing a pair of first-round picks is pretty significant.

Combine that lack of picks with the money the Seahawks will have to pay Adams if they want to keep him around for years to come, and it's not exactly a team-friendly transaction.

It wasn't a dream scenario for the Eagles, but overall this Adams deal has enough positives for fans to feel good.
