He did make one of the greatest catches in franchise history, so there’s that. But Freddie Mitchell netted just 90 catches for 1,263 yards and five TDs in four years with the Eagles, who picked him 25th out of UCLA in 2001. Of 66 receivers taken in the first round over the last 25 years (not including active players), only 12 caught fewer passes than Mitchell. Plus, he was drafted ahead of Reggie Wayne, Chad Johnson, Steve Smith, Chris Chambers and T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who combined for 19 Pro Bowls, 4,034 catches, 80,434 yards and 332 touchdown catches. Leroy Keyes was the third pick in the 1969 draft, taken by the Eagles one pick ahead of Hall of Famer Joe Greene. Oops. Keyes averaged 3.0 yards per carry as a running back as a rookie and was so ineffective that the next year he was moved to safety, where he started for two years on teams that won eight games in two years. He then spent 1973 with the Chiefs and was out of the league at the age of 26. Of 182 top-three picks since 1960, only 19 played in fewer NFL games (not including active players). (AP Images)

The Eagles took fullback Michael Haddix with the eighth pick in 1983 with several Hall of Famers still on the board, including Bruce Matthews, Jim Kelly, Darrell Green and Dan Marino. Haddix was a good blocker but his 3.0 career rushing average is third-lowest in NFL history by a player with 500 or more carries, behind Tom Brady and someone named Bob Monnet, who played in the 1930s. Haddix is the only player in NFL history to average 3.5 yards per carry or less eight times, and he did it eight years in a row. (AP Images)

The Eagles gave Marcus Smith three years, but they finally gave up on him after the 2016 season before he had ever started a game. Smith, a defensive end out of Louisville, was the 26th pick in the 2014 draft. He spent 2017 with the Seahawks and re-signed with Seattle after the season. Not counting kickers, he’s one of 23 first-round picks over the last 50 years to never start an NFL game. Smith does have 6 1/2 career sacks, including 2 1/2 with Seattle last year. (AP Images)

Bernard Williams the 14th pick in the 1994 draft out of Georgia, actually had a very good rookie year in 1994, starting all 16 games at left tackle and earning first-team all-rookie honors. But he was suspended the next summer for a positive test for a banned substance and never played football again. Only one player in the last 25 years taken with a top-14 pick played in fewer games than Williams, and that was 2003 Lions pick Charles Rogers. (University of Georgia)

Danny Watkins, the 23rd pick in the 2011 draft out of Baylor, had the physical tools to be a decent NFL guard, but he just had zero interest in the game of football, and it showed in his play. Watkins was 26 when the Eagles drafted him, and 28 when they released him. He was benched midway through the 2012 season and cut the next summer. He played in one game for the Dolphins in 2013 before pursuing his true life’s dream, which was becoming a firefighter. (AP Images)

Ray Rhodes, asked what he looks for in a potential draft pick, declared, “I like sickos. I like wackos.” Then he proceeded to draft Jon Harris, the nicest kid you’ll ever want to meet. He just was an awful defensive end. Harris, the 25th pick in the 1997 draft out of Virginia, managed two sacks in two seasons with the Eagles before getting traded to the Packers, where he was quickly released. Harris was out of the league before his 25th birthday after starting just eight games. (Philadelphia Eagles)

The Eagles traded up in the first round of the 2003 draft to take defensive end Jerome McDougle with the 15th pick out of Miami. McDougle never started a game and finished his career with three sacks (one of which resulted in 30 yards of penalties on McDougle himself). He did come back to play after missing a season when he was shot in a carjacking attempt in Miami in 2005, but injuries and ineffectiveness marked his career, and after playing four games with the Giants in 2008 his career was over. He is one of just seven top-15 picks in the last 50 years to never start an NFL game. (AP Images)

Kevin Allen, the ninth pick in the 1985 draft, lasted one year in the NFL before first-year coach Buddy Ryan released him in the summer of 1986. Allen was arrested soon after for rape and spend nearly three years in prison. He bounced around the World League and Arena League in the early 1990s but never played in the NFL again. Allen made four career starts. In the last 50 years, only seven top-10 picks started fewer games (not including active players). (AP Images)

Leonard Renfro was so bad he started two games in his career and that was the only time in franchise history the Eagles allowed 240 or more rushing yards in consecutive games. Renfro, a defensive tackle out of Colorado and the 24th pick in the 1993 draft, made his first career start, Emmitt Smith ran for a career-high 237 yards. When he made his second career start, a week later, Cards running back Ronald Moore ran for a career-high 160 yards.
