Flyers rookie camp has plenty of appeal.

No, not just because it's exciting to see prospects and feel like hockey is around the corner. In 2019, competition for roster spots is abundant. There are seven players in camp with realistic chances to make the big club's season-opening roster.

The push begins Saturday in Voorhees, New Jersey, as rookie camp commences (see details).

To get ready, let's look at the seven players vying for the roster and three under-the-radar guys to keep an eye on, as well.

Outlook

Philippe Myers got his taste of the NHL last season and now he's primed for a full-time role in 2019-20. The 22-year-old has come a long way since going undrafted in 2015 and was ranked a top-50 prospect by the NHL Network last August and by ESPN in March. He moves extremely well for his size and can chip in offensively, too.

Outlook

Following a standout 2018 preseason, Mikhail Vorobyev quickly fell out of favor with then-head coach Dave Hakstol. Four healthy scratches and seven games into the Flyers' 2018-19 season, Vorobyev was sent to AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley. He was recalled in late January by the new front office and played eight games the rest of the way. The 22-year-old is a skilled passer but his effort in all three zones will be important.

Outlook

The 19-year-old, one-and-done Boston University product will shoot for the Flyers' third-line vacancy along the wing. There's not much to dislike about Joel Farabee's game. While the 2018 first-round pick is a bit thin, he's advanced across the board. The goal-scoring winger has proven to be a quick climber in his development. Are the Flyers next on the ladder?

"If he needs some seasoning in Lehigh, that happens with a lot of really strong prospects, but it also wouldn't surprise me when the Flyers have him in their opening night lineup next October.

Outlook

A big-time playmaker, Morgan Frost turns pro during 2019-20 after recording 221 points (79 goals, 142 assists) and a plus-103 rating over 125 regular-season games in his final two seasons of junior hockey with the OHL's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Could the 2017 first-round pick fit in the Flyers' bottom six this season? There are many factors to that answer, but it will be interesting to see how his scoring ability and size translate in the AHL and eventually the NHL.

Outlook

Flyers assistant general manager Brent Flahr said the team's coaches "like a lot of things" that German Rubtsov brings to the table. The 21-year-old looks like an NHL center, from his strength to his smarts. Many have raved about his defensive awareness, which makes the 2016 first-round pick an attractive candidate for the third-line opening. If he stays healthy, he'll be an option throughout the season.

Isaac Ratcliffe finished his junior career with a bang, scoring 50 goals and 82 points in 65 regular-season games for the OHL's Guelph Storm. He then tacked on 30 more points (15 goals, 15 assists) in 24 playoff games to lead the Storm to a league title. His soft hands and scoring touch are rare for a player his size at just 20 years old. A dark horse to see the Flyers at some point in 2019-20?

Outlook

Carsen Twarynski opened eyes last preseason with his ability around the net and strength in puck battles. He was cut late into preseason and sent to AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley, where he had 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists) over 69 regular-season games in his first year as a pro. The 21-year-old will be out to prove himself again and a jump in production is expected for Year 2.

"All of a sudden, it's time to settle in and start your career as a pro. As you're doing that, you're thinking, 'Geez, I was really close.' In that situation, I think that might have weighed on his mind a little bit, but it's part of the process. … Everybody has their own race, nobody has to get to the NHL yesterday. Mark Friedman, No. 59 (pictured)

The 23-year-old defenseman was recognized by the front office last season with a call-up to the Flyers at Game 82 for his NHL debut. He plays with an edge and is somewhat forgotten at times when discussing the team's defensive prospects.

Wyatte Wylie, No. 86

The 2018 fifth-round pick has yet to sign his entry-level contract with the Flyers. At development camp this summer, the defenseman was uncertain if he was headed back to the WHL's Everett Silvertips for a fourth and final junior season. We'll find out soon where he plays in 2019-20.

Felix Sandstrom, No. 32

The 2015 third-round pick is entering his first year with AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley. With Brian Elliott's recent injury history and Alex Lyon being the likely call up if the Flyers need help in net, Sandstrom could see a lot of games with the Phantoms.
