2019 NHL draft profile: Kirby Dach, a can't-miss playmaker

Share

The 2019 NHL entry draft is Friday and Saturday in Vancouver, British Columbia. General manager Chuck Fletcher, assistant general manager Brent Flahr and the Flyers hold the 11th overall pick and eight selections in total (see story).

"This draft's a little unique," Flahr said last week. "Especially in the top 15, there are a number of different types of players, which is interesting — some power wingers, some smaller scoring wingers, some centermen, there's a number of D, a goaltender.

"We've identified probably five or six guys that we think have a chance to be there at 11 and probably some of the other teams in front of us will dictate that. But we're really confident we're going to get a good player."

This week, we are breaking down options for the Flyers at No. 11.

Kirby Dach

Position: Center
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 198
Shoots: Right
Team: Saskatoon

Scouting report

There's just so much to like about Dach.

He's 6-foot-4, smart, smooth and makes plays. A pass-first guy, Dach scored 73 points (25 goals, 48 assists) in 62 regular-season games for the WHL's Blades.

Impressively, he is the NHL Central Scouting's third-ranked North American skater behind only Jack Hughes and Bowen Byram.

Here's a glimpse into his playmaking:

Fit with Flyers

The question is will Dach drop to the Flyers at No. 11 overall? The chances aren't great, but after Hughes and Kaapo Kakko, anything could happen in this draft.

TSN's Craig Button has Dach as the 12th-best player in the draft, while others pin him as a top-five talent.

If Dach is available, the Flyers should take him. Flahr mentioned how difficult it is to find centers and Dach would be a can't-miss guy at No. 11.
