Hart injury update; Frost ‘coming along real well'

In his recovery from a mild knee sprain, Carter Hart skated Monday morning at Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone.

He didn't practice with the club, but Hart taking the ice is a positive step after he had experienced some lingering discomfort with his knee.

Flyers director of sports medicine Jim McCrossin informed head coach Alain Vigneault that Hart "felt good" in the morning before he took the ice. Hart is considered day to day.

"I haven't talked to Jimmy after practice, but they put him through his rehab and hopefully he's going on the ice in his pads here in the next few days and close to coming back," Vigneault said.

The Flyers have erred on the side of caution with the 22-year-old goalie's timeline. Hart last played April 15 and hasn't practiced with the team since April 16.

"We're just being a little bit cautious there," Vigneault said Sunday. "I know how badly he wants to get back at it."

Brian Elliott will start in net Tuesday when the Flyers visit the Devils (7 p.m. ET/NBCSP). Prospect Felix Sandstrom, who has been with the club on its taxi squad, will start for AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley on Wednesday. The Flyers have not made a decision on their starter for Thursday's road game against the Devils (7 p.m. ET/NBCSP).

In other injury matters Monday, Morgan Frost took part in an on-ice workout with Shayne Gostisbehere. Frost suffered a dislocated left shoulder in late January and underwent surgery in early February. The 21-year-old center is not a candidate to play again this season.

"Just next season," Vigneault said. "He's coming along real well, every day you see him in the gym working out. His shoulder is rehabbing and trending in the right direction."

Vigneault announced on Sunday that Gostisbehere is expected to be out seven to 10 days with a minor MCL sprain.
