The kid is back.

Carter Hart returns Monday night as the Flyers (30-18-7) host the Panthers (29-19-6).

Let's get into the essentials:

When: 7 p.m. ET with Flyers Pregame Live at 6:30 p.m. ET
Where: Wells Fargo Center
Broadcast: NBC Sports Philadelphia
Live stream: NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com and the NBC Sports MyTeams app

• Hart missed nine games because of a right lower abdominal strain. On Monday, Alex Lyon was loaned to AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley, as Brian Elliott will back up Hart against Florida.

The Flyers played it safe with Hart's timeframe. The 21-year-old is massive to their playoff push and future. Monday marks a favorable spot for Hart's return as the No. 1 goalie is 13-2-2 with a 1.69 goals-against average and .940 save percentage at home.

Hart rejoins the lineup with the Flyers two points out of third place in the Metropolitan Division and a tiebreaker out of the Eastern Conference's second wild-card spot (see standings).

• You could not have asked for a better response from the Flyers after the team stumbled to the Devils, 5-0, last Thursday at home.

The Flyers came back and blew out the Capitals, 7-2, on the road Saturday. It was a clear-cut sign of the Flyers' improvement this season.

The Flyers are 10-3-4 within the division after going 10-16-2 against Metropolitan foes last season.

That’s what good teams do, how teams are successful — they don’t get bothered by outside noise about losing a game 5-0 at home, a game we should have won obviously by the standings and by the points. We went into one of the toughest buildings and put on a clinic. That’s a big improvement from the past.

• Joel Farabee was back on the ice at morning skate after missing two games because of the flu. Farabee lost 10 pounds but said it was mostly water weight and that he has gained about half of that back.

He won't play Monday as the Flyers decided to roll with the same lineup from Saturday's convincing win and to give Farabee one more day.

"Technically, he is cleared, he's healthy right now," Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault said. "It's just a matter of the bug that hit him was very severe, he lost quite a few pounds. He skated [Sunday], skated a bit today, so we feel with an extra day of recovery — you know, four [games] in six [days] is tough, so if we need him to play, he'll be ready for us [Tuesday]."

• Shayne Gostisbehere didn't partake in morning skate. Vigneault said the defenseman felt some pain in his left knee, which required arthroscopic surgery Jan. 14.

During the morning, the Flyers were still in the process of evaluating his status, but Gostisbehere will miss his second straight game after returning in the loss to the Devils.
