Flyers at Devils, Game 7 of 2021 season: Live stream, storylines, game time and more

Claude Giroux will set a new franchise record when he takes the ice Tuesday as the Flyers (3-2-1) visit the Devils (3-1-1).

• Giroux, currently the longest-tenured athlete in Philadelphia going back to 2008, will play his 611th game as Flyers captain, passing franchise icon and Hockey Hall of Famer Bob Clarke for most games in that role.

"It's very special," Giroux said Monday. "Clarkie is obviously one of the best, probably the best player that has ever played in this organization. He's been great for me, early in my career, he helped me a lot. It feels great."

The 33-year-old Giroux has been the Flyers' captain since January 2013. Giroux took over the duties after Chris Pronger briefly served as captain following Mike Richards' three-year run in the role.

"Early on in my career, Mike Richards was our captain and I've learned a lot from him," Giroux said. "He wasn't a guy that spoke a lot, but his play on the ice was really good. Any time we needed a spark, he would do that. And when he had to say something, he would. I was lucky enough to have Richie as a captain early on in my career."

Ristolainen has surgery, Flyers expect him to be ready for 2024 training camp

• The Flyers on Tuesday afternoon activated Shayne Gostisbehere onto the roster. The 27-year-old defenseman missed the Flyers' first six games after testing positive for COVID-19. He's in the lineup tonight for his season debut as Erik Gustafsson will be a healthy scratch.

That won't be only the change for the Flyers. Brian Elliott will start in net for Carter Hart, who has had a rough three-start stretch.

• The Flyers are coming off their first consecutive losses since Dec. 31-Jan. 7 of last year, when they dropped four straight. The Flyers have allowed the NHL's third-most shots per game at 35.5 and lost to the Bruins, 6-1, their last time out.

"They slapped us right in the face there," Kevin Hayes said.

The Devils have yielded the league's second-most shots per game at 35.6 but have earned at least a point in four of their opening five games.

Jack Hughes, the 2019 first overall pick, has seven points (three goals, four assists). New Jersey is without No. 1 goalie Mackenzie Blackwood, who has been sidelined because of COVID protocol.
