No Hart, no Myers for Flyers against Bruins

Carter Hart's early departure from Friday's morning skate was not innocuous.

Hart, who was originally slated to back up Brian Elliott for Friday night's game against the Bruins, did not suit up because of back spasms. The 22-year-old goalie is considered day to day.

An hour before the game, Alex Lyon was recalled from the taxi squad on an emergency basis to back up Elliott.

Hart left Friday's morning skate early during the team's power play work near the end of practice. Lyon had to skate down to the opposite end to fill in for Hart, who did not appear to be seriously laboring as he walked to the dressing room.

"Carter spasmed up a little bit on the ice this morning, so we were just a little precautionary there," Vigneault said after the Flyers' 2-1 loss Friday. "He should be fine and should be at practice tomorrow."

Elliott was already slated to start Friday night in the Flyers' 12th game of the season.

The Flyers on Friday night did not have any players on the NHL's COVID protocol list.

Hart pulled himself out of a practice last season in January and was later diagnosed with a right lower abdominal strain.

The Flyers on Friday night were also without defenseman Philippe Myers, who has an upper-body injury. The 24-year-old participated in morning skate and was expected to play, skating alongside Travis Sanheim.

Myers missed four games in January because of a fractured rib injury. In his three games back, he was very good, putting up two assists and a plus-4 mark in 22-plus minutes per game.

"Phil's got an upper-body injury; I'm going to know a little bit more tomorrow," Vigneault said postgame. "That's all I have for now."

Robert Hagg entered the lineup for Myers.

The Flyers visit the Capitals for a two-game set over Sunday (noon ET/NBC) and Tuesday (6 p.m. ET/NBCSP).

The Flyers have already been without Sean Couturier (costochondral separation) since mid-January. The 2019-20 Frank J. Selke Trophy continued his rehab work Friday morning and is nearing a return.
