Frost exits Flyers' game in 1st period because of COVID protocols

After playing only 1:12 minutes in the first period, Flyers forward Morgan Frost left Tuesday night's game against the Devils at the Wells Fargo Center and did not return.

There was no immediate word on why Frost exited and was unable to return.

Following the Flyers' 6-1 win, interim head coach Mike Yeo said he was told Frost had to be removed from the game because of COVID protocols.

"That’s all that I have for you right now," Yeo said. "I know that we'll have more on him and his status tomorrow morning."

The 22-year-old was last on the ice with around 15:40 minutes left in the first period. He came off harmlessly for a line change before being told on the bench he had to leave the game.

The Flames had three games postponed this week because of COVID protocols, while the Hurricanes and Wild had their game called off Tuesday night.

"We're aware of what's going on around the league," Yeo said. "Everyone's health is at the top of our list of what's most important, as well as making sure that we take the right precautions here. We're obviously going to have some discussions about that. I'm not sure what the league's going to do, I'm not sure what we're going to do. When that happened, obviously it caught my attention, but at the same time, we were pretty immersed in the game. So we don't really have much on that right now."

Update: Breaking down what's next for Flyers, Frost after COVID protocol scare pops up

Frost, one of the organization's top prospects, was playing in his 10th game of the season with the big club. He was called up last month from AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley as the Flyers were decimated by injuries down the middle of the ice.

Frost has put up a goal and three assists this season. He entered the game playing on the Flyers' second line at left winger, alongside Claude Giroux and Cam Atkinson.

With Derick Brassard (hip) out, the Flyers don't currently have a healthy extra forward on their roster. Joel Farabee (shoulder) and Nate Thompson (shoulder) are on injured reserve. Farabee was a limited participant in practice Monday and is getting closer, while Thompson is out long term after undergoing surgery two weeks ago.
