The Flyers will be looking once again to keep the Rangers off the board.

The guys on Broad Street currently have a shutout streak of 138 minutes and 32 seconds over Broadway’s team — a streak that dates back to March 22, 2018.

The Flyers are currently riding a four-game winning streak over the Rangers, their longest winning stretch since winning five in a row over New York from April 11, 2010-Feb. 20, 2011.

Let's take a look at Sunday night's essentials:

• When: 7 p.m. ET with Flyers Pregame Live at 6:30 p.m.
• Where: Madison Square Garden
• Broadcast: NBC Sports Philadelphia

• With Carter Hart earning the start against Columbus on Saturday, backup Michal Neuvirth will start Sunday’s game at Madison Square Garden.

Here's what Flyers interim head coach Scott Gordon said Sunday prior to puck drop about the decision on having Hart back up before the three-day Christmas break:

I think the biggest thing is he's played three games in five days, but beyond that, he played Friday and Saturday before he got here, so we're looking at [five] games in nine days. I thought about it, going into the game, I thought if he had a light workload, possibly. But then I thought about what he did before he came here and I said to myself, I don't want to second-guess putting him in a situation where he could very well go in and play well, but now as it is, this is probably the right thing — not just from a lot of games standpoint, but when you think about as a 20-year-old, going through your first call-up, and having the pressure of performing well and wanting to perform well, try to make a statement as to saying you're ready — that's a lot of stress. His family is in town, so when it was all said and done, it almost became a no-brainer decision. Now he goes into the break and I would like to think he feels pretty good about how he's performed.

Neuvirth has made just two appearances this season: a 6-1 loss to the Islanders on Oct. 27 and a 7-1 loss to the Jets on Dec. 9, when he was pulled after allowing three goals.

The last time Neuvirth played at Madison Square Garden, he allowed three goals in the first period and never returned after suffering a lower-body injury. Alex Lyon stopped 25 of 26 shots over the final 40 minutes to earn his first career NHL win.

• Both teams will be playing the second leg of a back-to-back. The Flyers dropped a 4-3 game at home to the Blue Jackets while the Rangers were on the short end of a 5-3 loss to the Maple Leafs.

New York is just 1-2-2 in the second game of a back-to-back while the Flyers are 1-3-0.

• Coming into Sunday’s game against the Rangers, the Flyers were the only team in the NHL with identical records at home and on the road with a 7-8-2 mark and a 14-16-4 overall record.

After their 4-3 loss to the Blue Jackets, the Flyers have played three straight one-goal games for the first time this season and are 5-4-4 in games decided by a single goal.

“We should go to New York feeling confident about our game, as far as where we’re going," Gordon said Saturday. "If we had lost that game 4-2 and we weren’t getting any opportunities, spending a lot of time in our defensive zone, missed coverage, anything that can be considered negative. That’s something we're getting on the train to go to New York and saying to ourselves, 'Which team is going to show up tomorrow?'"

• The Rangers also enter Sunday’s game as one of the most outshot teams in the NHL with a shot differential of minus-5.0, which trails the Red Wings (minus-5.7), Ducks (minus-7.6) and Senators (minus-8.6).

With his assist on Sean Couturier’s goal, Jakub Voracek became the 329th player in NHL history to record 600 career points. Voracek’s next point will tie him with former Flyer Simon Gagne.

Fourth-line center Phil Varone collected his first goal with the Flyers Saturday on a rebound opportunity that gave the Flyers their only lead of the game. It was Varone’s sixth career goal and his first since Jan. 16, 2016, when he was a member of the Sabres.

“That one was probably the easiest one," Varone said. "I just had to put it in the back of the net. Great play by [James van Riemsdyk] there. Obviously, it did feel good.”

Henrik Lundqvist is expected to earn the start in net for the Rangers. In his last 29 appearances against the Flyers (dating back to March 6, 2011), Lundqvist has posted a 21-7-1 record, along with a 2.16 GAA, a .931 save percentage and two shutouts.

Only New Jersey’s Martin Brodeur has more career wins (50) against the Flyers' franchise than Lundqvist (35).

New York’s Chris Kreider, along with Washington’s Alex Ovechkin, are the only two players in the NHL this season with at least 15 goals and 70 hits. No Flyers player has topped 15 goals this season and only Robert Hagg and Radko Gudas have amassed 70 hits this season.
