Flyers sign 6-foot-4 Swedish defensive prospect to his ELC

Adam Ginning, a bit of a forgotten man among the Flyers' defensive prospects, signed his two-year entry-level contract Tuesday.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound lefty shot was selected by the Flyers in the second round of the 2018 draft. The Swedish native is regarded for a stay-at-home game in which he uses his size and strength to defend. He moves pretty well for his size, too.

The 22-year-old has played 216 games in the SHL, Sweden's top pro league. This season, Ginning played a career-high 51 for Farjestad BK and finished with five points (one goal, four assists) through 17:49 minutes per game. His game went up during the playoffs as Farjestad BK won the SHL title. Over 19 games of the postseason run, Ginning had five points (two goals, three assists) and a plus-5 mark in 19:11 minutes per game.

Ginning's most productive SHL season from an offensive standpoint came last year when he had three goals and nine assists in 50 games for Farjestad BK.

The Flyers should have prospects competing for a spot or two on defense next season. Four rookies saw time on the back end this year, with 2019 first-round pick Cam York leading the way at 30 games.

Ginning is projected to open the 2022-23 season at AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley.
