• The Flyers haven't won consecutive games in March. Despite losing Monday night, 2-1, to the Islanders in overtime, the Flyers believe their overall performance was a game they could use as a potential springboard.

The Flyers recorded their largest shot disparity of the season when outshooting an opponent. They outshot the Islanders 37-20, which also matched the Flyers' fewest shots allowed in a game this season.

For the first time in March, the Flyers held an opponent to under three goals.

"It’s tough, we played a pretty good game," Sean Couturier said postgame Monday. "We outshot them, got our chances, couldn’t capitalize and then they get two bounces their way and they cash in. It’s tough, but we've got to play more like that tomorrow, bring that same kind of game and start capitalizing on our chances and get some results."

The Flyers need to start getting results. They play their final five games of March against the bottom three clubs in the East Division, an opportunity ripe for gaining confidence and climbing the standings.

Alain Vigneault's club is within two points of the fourth-place Bruins, who have two games in hand on the Flyers and haven't played since March 18 because of the NHL's COVID protocols. The Flyers are six points back of the third-place Penguins and have two games in hand on Pittsburgh.

Both the Bruins and Penguins are idle Tuesday night, so this is a juicy opportunity for the Flyers.

• Carter Hart's goals-against average is up to 3.83. In last Saturday's 6-1 loss to the Islanders, Hart allowed six goals for the third time this season.

However, the 22-year-old has strong career numbers against the Devils: 3-1-0 with a 1.73 goals-against average and .937 save percentage.

• New Jersey is no walkover. The Devils have won three of their last four games, with two of those victories coming against the Penguins.
