After playing shorthanded last 2 games, Flyers have Tuesday game postponed

The Flyers won't have to play undermanned Tuesday night.

Because of COVID-related issues impacting Mike Yeo's club, the NHL postponed the Flyers-Hurricanes game at the Wells Fargo Center. A makeup date is to be determined.

At practice Monday, the Flyers had four players in the NHL's COVID protocol, with Justin Braun joining Claude Giroux, Ivan Provorov and Travis Konecny.

Despite fulfilling their five-day isolation requirement, Giroux, Provorov and Konecny all remained in protocol Monday, while Travis Sanheim was the lone player to exit and return to practice.

The Flyers were hoping they'd have some more test out of protocol heading into Tuesday.

Giroux and Provorov missed the Flyers' last three games. Konecny and Sanheim missed the last two.

The Flyers hosted the Penguins last Thursday with six players in COVID protocol. They played again Saturday at home against the Sharks with four players in protocol, going 0-1-1 in those matchups. They've lost five straight (0-3-2) while battling illness and injuries.

"You have nine, 10 guys out, six guys in protocol," Scott Laughton said last Thursday after the Flyers' 6-2 loss to the Penguins. "It's a tough league to win that way."

Prior to coming home, the Flyers endured COVID-related absences throughout their 1-2-1 West Coast road trip.

"It's tough, for sure," Carter Hart said last Tuesday. "Guys are testing positive with no symptoms or mild symptoms. I mean, the league's got to find a way to change that. We're either going to keep playing shorthanded all season long or games are going to keep getting postponed. I think it's a joke. It's got to change."

The Flyers (13-15-7) are scheduled to pick back up Thursday when they visit the Bruins (7 p.m. ET/ESPN).

The club has four games to be rescheduled: three at home (Capitals, Red Wings, Hurricanes) and one on the road (Penguins).

All tickets for Tuesday's game will be valid once the rescheduled date is selected. Tuesday's ticket holders can also exchange their tickets for another regular-season game.

For those details, see below:

  • Flyers season-ticket members can exchange tickets for a different game through their online account.
  • Single-game ticket holders who purchased tickets through the Flyers will receive an email with instructions to exchange their tickets for a different game if they choose.
  • Ticket holders who purchased tickets through a third party must handle any exchanges with that third party.
