Flyers expect one of Konecny's ‘best games' in his return to lineup

Share

The Flyers' energizer bunny is back in the lineup as the club attempts to record its first four-game winning streak in the opening month of a season since 2008-09.

The Flyers (6-2-1) on Sunday wrap up a back-to-back set with the Islanders (3-4-1).

Let's get into the essentials for the game:

  • When: 7 p.m. ET with Flyers Pregame Live at 6 p.m. ET
  • Where: Wells Fargo Center
  • Broadcast: NBC Sports Philadelphia
  • Live stream: NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com and the NBC Sports MyTeams app

• Travis Konecny returns to the lineup after his one-game benching.

The benching was not about Konecny's offensive production, but it's worth noting he went scoreless in his last game against the Devils. The 23-year-old doesn't put up back-to-back goose eggs often. Konecny went scoreless in consecutive games only six times last season.

Most importantly, though, the Flyers will want his 200-foot energy and decision-making against the Islanders. Head coach Alain Vigneault is looking for those traits to be more consistently prevalent in his group of forwards.

"T.K.'s one of our best players and we know what he can bring to this team," Claude Giroux said after the Flyers' 3-2 OT win Saturday over the Islanders. "We're a better team with him and he knows what he can do, he's a confident player. I’m sure tomorrow he's going to have one of his best games."

• A win tonight would give the Flyers their best 10-game start to a season (15 points) since the 2002-03 club, which was 7-1-2 with 16 points after 10 games.

• Brian Elliott will make his third start of the season.

The veteran backup has gone 2-0-0 with 63 saves on 66 shots and a .955 save percentage in his first two starts.

• New York is trying to snap a four-game losing streak.

Including the playoffs, the Flyers' last four wins over the Islanders have come in overtime. Scott Laughton has scored two of the four OT winners.
