An NHL debut in net for Flyers as they visit Sharks

With Felix Sandstrom in net Thursday, the Flyers (13-12-5) will look to extend their point streak to seven games when they visit the Sharks (16-14-1).

Let's get into the essentials for the game:

  • When: 10:30 p.m. ET with Flyers Pregame Live at 10 p.m. ET
  • Where: SAP Center at San Jose
  • Broadcast: NBC Sports Philadelphia
  • Live stream: and the NBC Sports MyTeams app

• Sandstrom will be making his NHL debut.

The 24-year-old Swedish native was selected by the Flyers in the third round of the 2015 draft. In 15 games at AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley, Sandstrom has gone 3-7-4 with a 3.08 goals-against average and .896 save percentage.

With Carter Hart in the NHL's COVID protocol, Sandstrom was called up Monday and had two practices with the big club.

"Excited to see him play in his first NHL hockey game here tonight," Flyers interim head coach Mike Yeo said in his pregame media availability. "I think it should be good motivation for all of us to make sure that we play a good game in front of him. He's played well in practice, he's looked comfortable, he's looked confident. We have confidence in him going in there."

Last night in Seattle, Martin Jones was busy, having to make 34 saves as the Flyers rallied for a 3-2 OT win over the Kraken. The club then had a long night of travel to San Jose, California.

Prior to signing with the Flyers in the offseason, Jones had his contract bought out by the Sharks. The 31-year-old played six seasons for San Jose. Before Hart was placed in COVID protocol, the Flyers originally wanted to get Jones this game.

"Obviously we don't want to put Jonesy in a tough spot here," Yeo said. "I would've liked for him to have been able to play against his former team, but given the workload, looking at the numbers of his loads and everything, I think it's wise to put a fresh body in there tonight."

• Yeo will also insert some fresh legs into his forward lines and defensive combinations.

Jackson Cates will replace Gerry Mayhew and play on the fourth line, while Nick Seeler will replace Kevin Connauton on the third defensive pair.

Yeo bumped up James van Riemsdyk to Claude Giroux's line and put Oskar Lindblom on Morgan Frost's line.

• The Flyers are 5-0-1 in their six-game point streak. They're 2-2-1 in the second game of back-to-back sets.
