Jimmy Hayes, the brother of Flyers' Kevin Hayes, dies at 31

Jimmy Hayes, the brother of Flyers center Kevin Hayes, died on Monday. He was 31 years old.

The Flyers released the following statement:

"We are heartbroken by the tragic news of Jimmy Hayes' passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kevin and the entire Hayes family."

The cause of death has not yet been released to the public.

A native of Dorchester, Massachusetts, Jimmy Hayes played seven seasons in the NHL. He played for four clubs and was last with New Jersey in 2017-18. His final pro season came with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2018-19.

Kevin Hayes, 29, followed his older brother's footsteps and played at Boston College, where the two were teammates for a season.

"Boston College Hockey is heartbroken over the passing of Jimmy Hayes," the program wrote in a tweet from its official account. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Hayes family."

Jimmy Hayes was selected in the second round of the 2008 draft. He made his NHL debut for Chicago in 2011-12 and played 334 career games.

Jimmy Hayes was married to his wife Kristen and had two sons Beau and Mac.
