A look at Flyers' 2022 NHL draft lottery odds for tonight

The Flyers stumbled to the finish line of their 2021-22 season to forget.

But that could have them darting up the 2022 draft board.

The 2022 NHL draft lottery is Tuesday, May 10, in Secaucus, New Jersey (6:30 p.m. ET/ESPN). Tonight is when the Flyers will learn the position of their first-round draft pick, a slot that should have the club's amateur scouting staff pretty excited.

At 25-46-11, the Flyers finished 29th in the NHL's 32-team standings. As a result, they have the fourth-best odds to win the lottery and land the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

The Flyers finished one point ahead of the expansion Kraken this season. The Canadiens finished with the worst record in the NHL, therefore they have the best lottery odds, followed by the Coyotes, Kraken, Flyers and Devils.

Per Mike G. Morreale of NHL.com:

There will be two lottery drawings, one for the No. 1 pick and one for the No. 2 pick. Once the top two picks have been established, clubs will be slotted in the order of their finish in the regular-season standings.

So the Flyers can finish no lower than the sixth overall spot and not at No. 3. They're most likely to land between fourth and sixth.

Here are the chances for each lottery club at winning the first overall pick.

  • Canadiens — 18.5%
  • Coyotes — 13.5%
  • Kraken — 11.5%
  • Flyers — 9.5%
  • Devils — 8.5%
  • Blackhawks — 7.5%
  • Senators — 6.5%
  • Red Wings — 6.0%
  • Sabres — 5.0%
  • Ducks — 3.5%
  • Sharks — 3.0%
  • Blue Jackets — 2.5%
  • Islanders — 2.0%
  • Jets — 1.5%
  • Canucks — 0.5%
  • Golden Knights — 0.5%

The Flyers have six selections in the draft, which will be held July 7-8 at Bell Centre in Montreal.

The last time the Flyers finished with a pick in the top three overall was 2017, when they improbably climbed from the 13th position to No. 2 overall. They had a 2.4 percent chance at the second pick that summer and landed it, selecting Nolan Patrick out of the WHL.

With the league's modified draft lottery format taking place this year, only the top 11 seeds are eligible to receive the first overall pick.
