Fun facts and matchups as the Flyers' 2021-22 schedule is released

The Flyers have said they're looking forward to a more normal season in 2021-22.

They should get that with the NHL set to have a traditional 82-game schedule for each club, something the hockey world hasn't seen over the last two seasons because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Fans will be back in full capacity and they'll see the Flyers for four straight games to open the 2021-22 campaign. The Flyers' season opener comes on Friday, Oct. 15, against the Canucks. Then the Dave Hakstol-led Kraken make their first-ever trip to Philadelphia on Monday, Oct. 18.

Some notes on the schedule:

• Per Flyers manager of broadcasting and media services Brian Smith, the last time the Flyers opened a season on a four-game homestand with fans in attendance was 1974-75.

• The Flyers have 15 back-to-back sets.

• The Flyers are not scheduled to play from Feb. 2-22 because of the Olympic break, which is still undetermined.

• The Flyers' longest stretch of consecutive home games is six (Feb. 26-March 8).

• The Flyers' longest stretch of consecutive road games is five (twice).

• The Flyers play the Devils and Blue Jackets only three times apiece.

As for some fun and notable matchups:

• Oct. 15 — Season opener at home vs. the Canucks.

• Oct. 18 — Hakstol and the expansion Kraken come to town.

• Nov. 26 — The always-popular Black Friday home game, this season vs. the Hurricanes.

• Dec. 29 — The Flyers' first-ever trip to Seattle to play the Kraken.

• Jan. 6 — The Flyers' first of two home games against the Penguins.

• Match 27 — New Flyers defenseman Ryan Ellis returns to Nashville for the first time.
