Flyers announce Star Wars Day with amazing Gritty trailer, Millennium Falcon shirt

The force is strong with Gritty. We know that (because he is very large, duh).

But now everyone's favorite mascot gets to play a new role fighting a dark side other than the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The team announced Tuesday that it'll be hosting Star Wars Day on Saturday, March 14, when the Flyers host the Minnesota Wild.

What sort of Star Wars-related hijinx will Gritty get into throughout the game? I'm hoping he slurps down some frogs ala Baby Yoda. Maybe we'll find out whose Gritty's real parents are? That'd be neat/annoying.

The Flyers even made a wonderful mini-trailer in which Gritty wields a light saber. (Click through tweet to view trailer.)

All fans attending will receive a special poster with Gritty's big fluffy hand holding a saber. There will also be a special T-shirt package available featuring the Flyers' logo mashed up with the Millennium Falcon. I have a good feeling about this.

Let's just hope the Flyers players have brushed up on their Star Wars history since we last asked them about it in 2017:
