It's December and there's no NHL hockey being played.
Even though we knew this was going to happen because of the impact of COVID and a late end to the 2019-20 season, it's still strange to not have your favorite team playing at this time of year.
For Flyers fans specifically, having to wait around unaware of when the next season will start, especially after one of the most thrilling years we've had in Philadelphia in a while ... it stinks.
So, a little rivalry talk on social media the past few days has been very helpful to filling the hockey void in our hearts. Seriously, no one can ever pass up putting in their two cents on the history between the Flyers and Penguins.
It started off earlier in the week when the NHL on NBC Sports account asked a simple question:
You'd probably expect a quick answer of which jersey each person prefers and everyone would move on, right? Well, that wasn't the case.
Of course the replies were flooded with comments that had nothing to do with the sweaters.
And then there's Gerry ... who completely missed the point:
Things didn't stop there, though. The two teams were also a topic of discussion on the NHL Network.
For the first time in a long time, it feels like optimism is gearing toward the Flyers between the battle of Pennsylvania.
From a young goaltender in Carter Hart, to a Selke Trophy winner in Sean Couturier, young talent on both ends of the ice and the superior mascot (duh), it's hard to bet against the Flyers.
Oh, and the Flyers do have the better home jersey. Just saying.
