Pookie Powell's 24 points not enough as La Salle falls to Richmond

Grant Golden scored 24 points as Richmond topped La Salle 84-75 on Saturday. Jacob Gilyard added 20 points for the Spiders.

Golden shot 10 for 12 from the field. He added nine rebounds and six assists. Gilyard also had six assists for the Spiders.

Nathan Cayo had 15 points and five assists for Richmond (12-15, 6-8 Atlantic 10 Conference). Jake Wojcik added 15 points.

La Salle scored 43 points in the first half, a season high for the team.

Pookie Powell had 24 points for the Explorers (8-18, 6-8). Isiah Deas added 16 points and six rebounds. Ed Croswell had nine rebounds.

The Spiders evened the season series against the Explorers with the win. La Salle defeated Richmond 66-58 on Feb. 2. Richmond takes on George Mason on the road on Wednesday. La Salle takes on Davidson at home on Wednesday.

Isiah Deas had a career-high 31 points as La Salle topped Morgan State 85-68 on Saturday.

David Beatty had 18 points for La Salle (6-3). Sherif Kenney added nine points and seven rebounds. Christian Ray had seven rebounds for the hosts.

Troy Baxter Jr. had 15 points for the Bears (4-8). Stanley Davis added 14 points. Isaiah Burke had 12 points and six rebounds.

La Salle faces Wagner at home on Wednesday. Morgan State plays Chestnut Hill at home on Monday.

David Beatty had 14 points to lead five La Salle players in double figures as the Explorers defeated Drexel 71-63 on Saturday.

Saul Phiri added 12 points for the Explorers, Scott Spencer chipped in 11 with seven rebounds and Ayinde Hikim and Ed Croswell each scored 10

Isiah Deas, the Explorers' second leading scorer heading into the contest at nine points per game, was just 1-of-9 shooting.

Zach Walton had 19 points and eight rebounds for the Dragons (5-5). James Butler added 17 points and 12 rebounds. Camren Wynter had 11 points and six rebounds.

La Salle (5-3) matches up against Morgan State at home next Saturday. Drexel takes on South Florida on the road next Sunday.
