The Temple Owls now know the path they will have to take to build on back-to-back 10-win seasons and a first-ever American Athletic Conference championship.

Temple's 2017 schedule was released on Thursday and the defending AAC champs will start their season on the national stage at Notre Dame (Sept. 2, NBC), who is looking to rebound from an uncharacteristic 4-8 season.

After the Fighting Irish, the Owls will play two non-conference games against Villanova (their first matchup since 2012, an Owls' win) and UMass. The next week will start the AAC season against South Florida (11-2 last season), on Sept. 21 on ESPN.

“What a great time to be an Owl,” Temple's first-year head coach Geoff Collins said in a statement. “Whether on the road and on national television or at Lincoln Financial Field against some of the best in college football, Temple is now recognized as a top-25 program. People will watch us play and see championship football every play – from snap to whistle.”

The Owls will play four national TV games — at Notre Dame (NBC), at South Florida (ESPN), vs. Navy (ESPN or ESPN2) and at Cincinnati (ESPN2). Also, among the 12-game slate, the Owls will play against six opponents who had winning records last season, making the quest for another AAC title a tough one.
