The Notre Dame Fighting Irish can still make the College Football Playoff -- but only with a win over the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday.

Notre Dame will play its final game of the 2021 regular season when it visits Stanford, Calif. On Saturday night. At 10-1, the Irish are currently the second team out of the playoffs, just behind No. 4 Cincinnati -- the same team who handed Notre Dame its only loss of the season -- and No. 5 Michigan.

After starting the season 4-0 with impressive wins over Purdue and Wisconsin, the Irish fell to Cincinnati in South Bend. Since that loss, Brian Kelly’s squad has gone on a dominant run. There were three close wins over Virginia Tech (32-29), USC (31-16) and North Carolina (44-34). And then there were three blowouts over Navy (34-6), Virginia (28-3) and Georgia Tech (55-0).

Stanford is currently 3-8 and will miss out on a bowl game for the third straight season. The season started off strong at 3-2 with ranked wins over USC and Oregon, but the Cardinal have since lost six straight. Just two of their eight losses have been one-score games, with five of them by 17 or more points.
