Eagles to interview Steelers personnel man Brandon Hunt

The Steelers have granted the Eagles permission to interview pro scouting coordinator Brandon Hunt for their personnel vacancy, Steelers president Art Rooney II told reporters at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama on Thursday.

The news was tweeted out by Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Hunt is the first candidate for the Eagles' front office vacancy that has been publicly identified.

Comcast SportsNet’s Derrick Gunn, quoting league sources, said that interview will take place on Friday.

Hunt has served as the Steelers’ pro scouting coordinator since February of 2010.

It isn’t clear exactly what title the Eagles’ personnel hire will have or exactly where he’ll fit in the Eagles’ front office hierarchy.

Eagles owner Jeff Lurie has refused to answer questions about the personnel opening in his two recent press conferences.

Considering that Hunt is in his mid-30s and relatively inexperienced in the personnel world, it’s hard to imagine the Eagles would place him above executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman in terms of decision making.

Hunt played college football at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was a first-team all-conference offensive lineman. He earned a degree in management information systems from IUP in 2003 and a Masters in business administration in 2006.

He interned with the Steelers in 2005 and 2006 and got his first full-time scouting job with the Texans in 2007. He remained with the Texans until he joined the Steelers in his current role six years ago.

Hunt is the third graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania to serve as the Steelers’ pro scouting coordinator.

The two previous ones were Tom Donahoe and Tom Modrak.

Donahoe is currently the Eagles’ senior director of player personnel. Modrak was the Eagles’ general manager from 1998 through 2001.

The Steelers' personnel and scouting operation has long been considered among the best in the NFL.

The Steelers have been in the postseason 27 of the last 44 years. In the six years Hunt was in Pittsburgh, the Steelers went 61-35 with four playoff appearances and a Super Bowl loss.
