Eagles sign QB Aaron Murray to practice squad

The Eagles found their third quarterback.

On Tuesday, they signed former Chiefs quarterback Aaron Murray to the practice squad and released wide receiver Marcus Johnson from the practice squad to make room.

After the Eagles traded away Sam Bradford, they had just two quarterbacks on the roster and head coach Doug Pederson said the team would like to have three.

Murray, 25, was an obvious choice.

He was taken in the fifth round out of Georgia by the Chiefs in 2014. Murray spent the last two years with Andy Reid and Pederson in Kansas City, so the former Bulldog already knows Pederson's offense. But he hasn't played in an NFL game.

Murray was released by the Chiefs on Sept. 3. He spent about a week on the Cardinals' practice squad before Arizona released him on Monday.

At Georgia, Murray had a very successful career, setting school records in passing attempts, completions, yards and touchdowns.

It's important to note that Murray is not on the Eagles' 53-man roster, so he would need to be signed to the roster before he could be active or play in a game. Still, having him in the building is some added insurance in case Carson Wentz or Chase Daniel get hurt.
