Eagles trade safety Terrence Brooks to Jets for corner Dexter McDougle

Howie Roseman has pulled off another preseason trade.

This time, he is sending safety Terrence Brooks to the Jets in return for cornerback Dexter McDougle.

McDougle, 26, was a third-round pick in the 2014 draft out of Maryland. He missed his entire rookie season after an ACL tear. In his next two seasons in the league, he played in 20 games without a start. He had one pass defensed in his rookie season.

Brooks was once thought to be in a position battle with Jaylen Watkins for the third safety job in Philly, but a lot has changed in the secondary since then. The Eagles went out and signed veteran Corey Graham to be the team's third safety and then traded for top cornerback Ronald Darby.

Watkins, who outlasts Brooks with the Eagles, might have a better shot of making the roster now. Although once Graham was brought in, the Eagles started using Watkins all over — at safety, corner and slot corner.

McDougle will get to Philly without much time to get acclimated to Jim Schwartz's defense before the start of the season. He'll have just a few days before the preseason finale and just two weeks before the season opener in Washington.
