The Flyers' prospects took care of business Wednesday night in East Meadow, New York, beating the Islanders' prospects, 4-0, in exhibition play at Northwell Health Ice Center.
Anthony Salinitri, Steven Swavely, Tyrell Goulbourne and Carsen Twarynski all scored for the Flyers, who opened rookie camp Tuesday and begin main training camp Friday.
“It was a really positive night and a real good effort,” head coach Dave Hakstol said, per Flyers public relations. “Overall, individuals on the team got better from start to finish.”
Phantoms assistants Riley Cote and Kerry Huffman coached the prospects.
Goulbourne did a little bit of everything, as he picked up an assist to go with his goal and won a fight with a big lefty punch. The tough 22-year-old winger, who is set for his second AHL season at Lehigh Valley, also compiled nine penalty minutes for fighting and roughing.
Heralded prospect Travis Konecny helped open the scoring in the second period by assisting Salinitri’s goal. Radel Fazleev also recorded an assist, while goaltenders Alex Lyon and Carter Hart teamed for a shutout.
The Flyers turned a 1-0 game into a 4-0 breeze with three third-period markers.
“To me what stood out was that the team settled in and got better and more sound in all areas of the game in each period throughout the game,” Hakstol said. “That’s what you want to see.”
The Flyers start their preseason schedule on Monday with split-squad games. One team will visit the Devils, while the other will visit the Islanders. Puck drop is 7 p.m. for both.
