Fresh off his appearance at the NHL All-Star Game in which he was voted MVP, the accolades keeping arriving for the "Wayne Train."

Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds was named the NHL's First Star of the week on Monday afternoon.

Simmonds was not at practice at Skate Zone as he flew directly to Raleigh, North Carolina, for Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes.

San Jose’s Patrick Marleau was named second star and Toronto goalie Frederik Andersen was named third star.

Simmonds' award includes the prior week, plus the All-Star Game. Besides the three goals in the tournament, including the Metropolitan Division game-winner, Simmonds played well with the Flyers last week.

He had goals in three straight games, including the game-winner in New York against the Rangers and another one the night after against Toronto.

Simmonds leads the Flyers with 21 goals as the stretch drive to the playoffs gets into full operational mode on Tuesday in Carolina (see story).
