DENVER -- Giants ace left-hander Madison Bumgarner was placed on the disabled list for the first time in his big league career Friday after a dirt bike accident that sent him to a hospital with bruised ribs and a sprained joint in his pitching shoulder.

San Francisco announced Bumgarner's injury Friday, a day after the accident occurred during an off day in Colorado. The Giants said Bumgarner is out of the hospital and resting at the team hotel. He is scheduled to be re-evaluated next week.

Also Friday, manager Bruce Bochy rejoined the team. Bochy missed a two-game series at Kansas City following a heart procedure.

The 27-year-old Bumgarner, the 2014 World Series MVP, is 0-3 with a 3.00 ERA in four 2017 starts (see full story).

Red Sox: Bradley activated, Holt on 10-day DL with vertigo
BALTIMORE -- The Boston Red Sox have activated outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. from the disabled list and placed utility player Brock Holt on the 10-day DL with vertigo.

Bradley missed 12 games with a right knee sprain. He was in the starting lineup Friday night against the Orioles.

Bradley was batting .286 in four games.

Holt says he started feeling "a little weird" during the team's series in Detroit earlier this month. He says he tried to play anyway "but it just didn't feel right."

He described the symptoms as "a little dizziness, a little light-headedness."

Nationals: SS Turner activated from 10-day DL
NEW YORK -- The Washington Nationals have activated shortstop Trea Turner from the 10-day disabled list after he was sidelined by a strained right hamstring.

Turner wasn't in the starting lineup Friday night for the series opener against the Mets in New York.

The 23-year-old Turner was 3 for 19 with seven strikeouts and three steals in the Nationals' first five games before getting hurt. He was runner-up for the National League Rookie of the Year award last season.

Turner played two games in extended spring training this week, going 5 for 7 with three extra-base hits, three walks and two steals.

The Nationals designated 29-year-old infielder Grant Green for assignment. He played twice for Washington, going 0 for 3 in Atlanta on Thursday night.

Rangers: Josh Hamilton released after another injury
ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers have released Josh Hamilton from his minor league contract after another knee injury, perhaps signaling the end of the 2010 AL MVP's career.

Team spokesman John Blake said Friday that Hamilton injured his right knee while recovering from left knee surgery and will have a procedure on the newly injured knee at some point.

Hamilton, who turns 36 next month, underwent reconstructive surgery on his left knee last June and left the team during spring training for another procedure after experiencing soreness.

The procedure during spring training was the 11th of Hamilton's career and third since the five-time All-Star last played in the majors in 2015.

Hamilton was the No. 1 overall pick out of high school in 1999. His career was almost derailed by drug and alcohol addiction before he made his big league debut with Cincinnati in 2007.
