Phillies call up relief prospect Jesen Therrien to replace Pat Neshek

The Phillies have replaced Pat Neshek in the bullpen with one of their most intriguing young arms.

Right-handed reliever Jesen Therrien (pronounced Jason Terry-in) had his contract selected Friday from Triple A Lehigh Valley.

Therrien, a 24-year-old with a big fastball and a wipeout slider, had a 1.41 ERA in 39 appearances this season at Double A and Triple A. He struck out 65 and walked just nine in 57⅓ innings.

"We loved his breaking ball in spring training," manager Pete Mackanin said in early June. "We really got excited about him.

"For me, he's on the map. Especially out of the bullpen, if you have a good breaking ball and can command it, that's half the battle."
