A look at Phillies' 2021 World Series, NL East odds

It’s fair to say most want 2020 to be over.

Well, in Major League Baseball the final chapter has been closed and it’s time to look forward to 2021.

And the Phillies and Mike Trout are linked.

Hold on and pump the brakes ... it’s not what you think.

According to NBC Sports betting partner PointsBet, the Phils and Trout’s Angels are both listed at +4000 or 40-1 to win the World Series next season ($10 bet to win $400). Those odds give both franchises the 16th-best chance to be crowned champs in 2021.

Much like entering the 2020 season, the Phillies have the fourth-best odds in the National League East to win the division.

The Phillies' odds are +575 ($10 bet to win $57.50) to win the NL East. That number is considerably higher compared to right before the start of the 2020 season in which the Phillies were around +300 to +350 to win the division.

It's no surprise the Braves are the odds-on favorite to win the East. However, the Marlins, who finished in second place this year, have the longest shot at +5000 ($10 bet to win $500).

As for the Phillies' win percentage for 2021, PointsBet has them at 50.3 percent, which projects out to 81.5 wins based off a 162-game schedule. That’s slightly down from 2020, which had the Phils' win percentage at 52.5 percent (31.5 wins). The Phillies fell short of that number this summer, going 28-32 for a 46.7 win percentage, causing them to miss the playoffs by one game.
