Aaron Nola did not make it out of the fourth inning in the Phillies' must-win season finale Sunday afternoon in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Nola left with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning and the Phillies trailing, 3-0.

Hector Neris took over with two men on base and got out of the inning.

The Phillies lost 5-0 and were eliminated from the playoffs.

It was a battle for Nola. He threw 93 pitches and allowed six hits and three walks.

Over his last three regular-season starts, Nola gave up 11 earned runs in 15 innings.

Nola struggled last September, going 0-3 with a 6.51 ERA in five starts.

The Phillies needed a win in their series finale as well as losses from San Francisco and Milwaukee to claim the eighth and final NL playoff spot.

The Giants and Brewers both lost but the Phillies did not take advantage. With all three teams losing on the final day, the Brewers made the postseason at 29-31.

The Phillies have not been to the postseason since 2011. Only Seattle (2001) has a longer drought.
