Diamondbacks' win over Padres snaps 24-game road losing streak

The Arizona Diamondbacks' historic losing streak has reached the end of the road.

After two months and 24 games, they have finally won a road game.

The victory came in San Diego on Saturday night as the Diamondbacks defeated the Padres 10-1 to snap what was an MLB-record 24-game road losing streak. Their last road victory prior to that had been on April 25 in Atlanta.

Arizona, which had seven blown leads during the streak, jumped out to a comfortable advantage early on Saturday after scoring in each of the first four innings to take a 6-0 lead.

They exploded for 16 hits, led by Eduardo Escobar, who went 4-for-5 with a two-run home run and five RBIs.

Merrill Kelly tossed six shutout innings to pick up the win and do his part in bringing a prolonged stretch of road futility to a merciful end.

The D-backs broke the previous record of 23 games shared by the 1963 New York Mets and the 1943 Philadelphia Athletics on June 17 after a four-game sweep by the San Francisco Giants.

They then returned to Arizona for a six-game homestand and didn't fare much better there, going 1-5. They were back on the road Friday night, falling to the Padres 5-1 to extend the streak to 24 games.

With the streak-snapping win on Saturday, the Diamondbacks improved their road record to 10-32 but remain the league's worst team at 21-56.
