Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna was arrested following an alleged domestic violence incident with his wife at their home in Sandy Springs, Ga., on Saturday.

Ozuna was booked into Fulton County Jail and charged with aggravated assault strangulation and misdemeanor battery -- family violence after Sandy Springs police officers witnessed Ozuna grab his wife by her neck, throw her against a wall and strike her with a cast he was wearing on his arm, according to a release from the police department.

The officers were responding to a 911 call about an assault in progress and "heard screaming coming from inside" when they arrived at the residence.

Ozuna's wife suffered visible injuries but was not transported to a hospital, according to police.

The aggravated assault strangulation charge is a felony in Georgia and carries a sentence of three to 20 years in prison if convicted, per ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The Braves released the following statement Saturday night:

MLB is expected to launch an investigation into the situation and Ozuna could face a suspension under the league's domestic violence policy, according to Passan.

Ozuna was not with the team in New York for their weekend series against the Mets after being placed on the injured list Friday with two fractured fingers in his left hand. Ozuna re-signed with Atlanta on a four-year, $65 million deal last offseason.
