No laughing matter for Andrew Knapp because it cost him a single, but the reaction from debuting Marlins pitcher Braxton Garrett after an unexpected web gem behind him Sunday was pretty funny.
Knapp grounded a ball down the third base line in Game 2 of the doubleheader. Brian Anderson gloved it and threw while moving into foul territory to nab Knapp by a half-step.
The reaction from Garrett, who had previously recorded just five outs above the Single A level, was essentially: "Woah, did you just make that play?" You can see him mouth, "No way."
Garrett picked up where Sixto Sanchez left off Sunday, limiting the Phillies to one run on three hits over five innings in his MLB debut. He was the seventh overall pick in the 2016 draft, six spots after the Phillies took Mickey Moniak.
The Phillies lost to the Marlins 2-1 and 8-1 Sunday. They are 2-4 in the seven-game series and 3-6 against Miami on the season. They are now in third place, trailing the Marlins by a half-game.
The Phillies would still be in the playoffs if the season ended today as the 7-seed. The top four seeds in each league host the first-round Best of 3 before MLB moves to a bubble format for the remaining rounds.
